  • Blackbuck hunts in Texas – Korey and the 1 mile Blackbuck

Blackbuck hunts in Texas – Korey and the 1 mile Blackbuck

    Blackbuck Hunts in Texas

Korey came with his dad on his Sable hunt and was hoping to hunt Aoudad. After a tough go at it and with only a day and a half to hunt we knew the aoudad were going to be tough and after hunting them for 2 half days we decided to change the hunt to a Blackbuck hunts in Texas. Korey’s blackbuck hunts in Texas turned out to be a lot more than we bargained for. After giving up on Aoudad and deciding to switch to blackbuck hunts in Texas we came to the edge of a big coastal field. We spotted a really big blackbuck about 150 yards out ahead of us. Korey got out of the truck and worked his way down to the fence line to try to get a shot. After the shot the blackbuck darted off the field and I could tell it was a clean miss. After a quick look for blood we were back on the hunt. We got on another black buck but couldn’t get a shot. I wanted to find a particular one and after some looking we found him. This black buck is very narrow but he has a funny swoop to his horns and he is very tall 20+ inches. So we stalk in on him and the only shot we had was quartering away at about 100 yards and the result was another miss. At this point the blackbuck hunts in Texas were not going our way, so we decided to go find the Sable for Korey’s dad and shoot Korey’s gun at some point. So after we got done with the Sable hunts and stopped and had some refreshments we were back on the blackbuck hunts in Texas. We ran by the range and got Korey set up and I pulled the old take the bullet out of the gun trick. Well like we suspected Korey had the flinch bug. After we all gave Korey some shooting tips we had him live fire a couple rounds and he was on the money. The blackbuck hunts in Texas was back on. We scoured the pasture looking for the big one and as light was drawing down we found a nice one to try to end Korey’s blackbuck hunts in Texas on. We stalked down the hill and the Blackbuck just stood and stared at us so we were out of brush to use as cover and we were in a good old fashioned stare down with Korey’s Blackbuck. After 10 minutes the Blackbuck finally decided to turn and walk through the clearing Korey had been aiming at. Right there let him stop….. Wham. Ok why didn’t he fall? Well instead of falling to end Korey’s Blackbuck hunts in Texas the blackbuck takes off with his guts dragging the ground. We finally lost the trail and decided we better make a decision. Pull off and come back in the morning or call in the dogs. Well Korey was cool with calling the dogs in so we made some phone calls and got it lined up. Only thing was we would have to sleep on it. The tracker had never run his dogs on exotics and in an exotic ranch who knows what the dogs would do. So we agreed it would be better to run them in the daylight and be able to see them. Boy did Korey take him some jabs and pokes the rest of the evening. After a good dinner and a little sleep we were at the gate waiting for the dogs to arrive. Once we got the dogs we put them on the trail and they did their job. We got all the way to last blood from the night before and Korey’s blackbuck laid dead less than 300 yards away. After some ribbing we took pictures and Korey’s Blackbuck hunts in Texas came to an end. Oh yeah and the mile long blackbuck got his name mile long because he ran almost exactly a mile! Congrats Korey can wait to have you guys back and we can spend a couple days looking for those Aoudad.

  • Blackbuck Hunts in Texas – Gary gets his Blackbuck

    Blackbuck Hunts in Texas –

After Gary had finished up his Aoudad hunt we had been talking about possibly looking at blackbuck hunts in Texas. So while Paul was hunting Sika Tim and I took Gary to look at blackbuck on his blackbuck hunts in Texas. We ran across a good blackbuck up in the front of the ranch and Tim and Gary took off to try and put a stalk on him to start Gary’s blackbuck hunts in Texas. I pulled the truck down a road into the brush to wait and see if they were able to stalk on the blackbuck hunts in Texas. After a few minutes I caught movement and the Blackbuck had turned back and gotten around the hunters without them seeing him. So I drove down to pick them up. They never saw him slip by so I drove them in the direction I had seen the Blackbuck go. We got back to the lodge and there he was standing at the feeder in the yard pasture. We tried to get out and get on him but he was not having any of that. The Blackbuck and his doe slipped under the fence into another pasture. We took the long way around trying to catch up to them without spooking them to bad on Gary’s blackbuck hunts in Texas. As we made our way around we finally spotted them feeding across a pasture. The buck was standing broadside and Gary got out and readied for a shot. Tim got a range and it was 210 yards. Gary pulled the trigger and the blackbuck took off not appearing to be hit. We followed and he ran down into the pasture and into some brush. We talked about it and realized he was not hit so we took off looking for him again. About this time was also when we spooked the Sika buck Paul was after so we knew being as far away from Paul’s feeder as he was the Sika were probably not going to make it over there before dark. So we went to get him and decided we should call it a day and go have dinner. Next morning we got Paul’s Sika buck out of the way and then focused on Gary’s Blackbuck Hunts in Texas. After lunch Tim and I decided to push the corner we had seen the buck go into earlier in the day. Tim and I walked the brush and made our way back to the truck as we approached the hunters we could see they were looking down the lane at some does we stopped and glassed and here came the buck. Gary readied the shot and squeezed off a round. The Blackbuck dropped in his tracks. We drove over and found him in the tall weeds. Gary’s blackbuck hunts in Texas came to a successful close and it was time to head for the skinnig rack. Gary thanks for coming back for the Aoudad and blackbuck can’t wait for you and Coby to make it back down for some more hunts.

  • Blackbuck Hunts in Texas – Andrea’s Bonus hunt

    Blackbuck Hunts in Texas –

Andrea had already taken a very nice Trophy Axis buck on the first day of her Hunts in Texas so she wanted to go after a couple more animals if she got the opportunity. Don was focusing on a Sika buck we had been seeing pretty regular on game camera so Andrea and her guide Tim went and sat in another blind to see what would come in. Don and I were in a stand about a half a mile from Andrea and we heard a shot. We texted them and asked if that was them and got the reply ” nope must be the neighbors.” So Don and I continued to hunt. Little did we know Andrea had already completed her Blackbuck hunts in Texas. We had been seeing a couple real nice blackbuck on this property and Andrea had managed to take one on her first day of blackbuck hunts in Texas. Well a little while later we hear another shot and this one I figured had to be Andrea but we got the same reply. Well little did we know Andrea had moved on from Blackbuck Hunts in Texas to Whitetail hunts in Texas. So Don and I had seen a few deer and light was closing pretty fast. We walked back to the truck and started heading over to the Stand we had sat Andrea and Tim for her Blackbuck hunts in Texas. As we pulled into the stand we could see Andrea had been sucsesful on her blackbuck hunts in Texas, The black buck was down probably 30 yards from the blind. We got out and congratulated her on her trophy. As we were getting ready to load the blackbuck Andrea had taken on her blackbuck hunts in Texas Andrea asked me what county we were in? I informed her she didn’t need the county info for her license with exotic animals. Andrea said well we need it for the whitetail we shot after we got the blackbuck. Don and I looked at each other and I looked at Tim… Well she was going to let it walk but couldn’t. Congrats Andrea on two fine animals! We tagged the whitetail and loaded both animals and headed for the skinning rack. Thanks Andrea and congrats on two great animals.

  • Blackbuck Hunts in Texas – Keith’s Blackbuck Hunt

Blackbuck hunts in Texas – Keith and his son Luka came in on Thursday night to join their Gary on his hunt. Keith and Luka wanted to look at some blackbuck and a few other exotics. So Friday morning we set out to find Keith a good dark blackbuck. We met up with another one of our guides in town and we decided we should start right out of town on a low fence property we have been seeing a really nice dark blackbuck in. As we pulled into the ranch we passed an oat patch and we saw a younger blackbuck take off across the field. I didn’t think we would even have a shot at catching up to that one so we kept driving through the ranch. We got to a field with a bunch of cattle in it and we noticed a coyote amongst the cattle. So as we sat contemplating how to get a shot on the Coyote I scanned the rest of the field. “Keith what do you think about that black buck?” There was a buck and 3 does on the far right of the field.  It looked to be a very dark blackbuck from 7-800 yards out I couldn’t tell what his horns looked like and I had no idea how we were going to get close to them. After a few minutes of looking at them we decided to get out and try to put the sneak on them. After a few minutes of stalking the coyote we had seen decided to flee the field and that jumped the blackbuck and pushed them down to the far end of the field. I figured we were done; one side of the field is 5 strand barbed wire 2 of the does had already left the area but the buck would not allow the last doe to get to the fence. We decided the best thing would be to go sit on the edge of the field behind a tree and let the blackbuck work over to us. We sat and watched the Blackbuck and I finally realized they were going to need to be pushed up to us so I called Jeremy who had dropped us off and told him to drive in on the bottom side of the field and the Blackbuck would run right up in our lap. A couple minutes later the Blackbuck was less than 200 yards and Keith decided it was time for a shot. He let the .270 WSM do the job and dropped the blackbuck in his tracks. Congrats to Keith on a fine blackbuck animal one off the list. After some pictures and some congrats all around we were ready for some breakfast and to go look at Luka a 4 horn Jacobs sheep.
